When you choose to be married according to the Church’s service of Marriage, planning the service for your wedding day can be both exciting and challenging.
A marriage enables a couple to make a deep commitment to share their desires, longings, dreams and memories. You make serious life-long promises and commitments in the presence of God and before your family and guests. Anglican clergy are Licensed Marriage Celebrants of the Republic of Cyprus. You do not need an additional civil ceremony prior to your wedding. The marriage service is similar to that of the Church of England and is recognised in British law as a valid marriage. You do not need Banns to be read prior to your Cypriot Marriage because you are married by Special License (see Legal Requirements). The Wedding Service follows a traditional format using modern language and takes around 20 – 30 minutes. The Music, Hymns (if using these) and Readings used throughout the service are all of your choice but should reflect both the dignity and joy of the occasion. They should be meaningful and special to you. You will both make the following vows in turn during the service: I, (N), take you, (N), to be my husband/wife, to have and to hold from this day forward; for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part; according to God’s holy law. In the presence of God I make this vow. Your priest, organist, wedding coordinator and vergers wish to make your day special and as unique to you as possible. They are very happy to provide help and advice. The Marriage Order of Service, shown below, gives the structure of the service and this should be used if you wish to produce an order of service.
